How this tool changes learning in a way that isn't possible without technology
They are beginning a unit on Pharmacy Billing. They will use prior knowledge to answer a question regarding future knowledge they are about to acquire.
Lino
Students need the technology to be able to (1) do the research (2)Lino allows them to compare each other’s findings and learn from each other
Instead of a traditional teacher to student PowerPoint Presentation, students will get into groups of 3 (there are 21) and will complete a Prezi presentation.
Prezi
The technology available with Prezi, students will be able to create an interactive presentation teaching their fellow students about the differed types of insurance. Students typically learn better from their peers.
The student groups will turn in 3 questions (1 person each) that students will be able to answer after hearing their presentation.
Quiz Revolution
Quiz Revolution allows the student to review the content, all while competing with their classmates. This gives them real time scores vs. doing a non-technology game, which could take a while.
Students will "role play" by making a comic strip. They will put a technician and a patient and explain the following scenarios.
A patient has just switched from one HMO to another HMO. He does not realize that the new HMO uses a different formulary that does not cover his usual prescription, which he requested from his new PCP. How can you explain the switch? What are the customer’s options?
A patient with Medicaid has a $500 deductible, a change from the program his family was enrolled in the previous year, in which he was not responsible for any cost. How will you explain the idea of a deductible?
A patient is upset because the insurance denied a prescription on the basis that the medication is being refilled too soon. How, as a technician would you handle it?

Pixton
I personally like the idea of a comic strip because it allows a venue for shy students to express themselves.
Students will generate a “breaking news” picture using a pharmacy insurance/drug cost related news story.
Class tools has a variety of tools for the classroom, but I really liked this one. It forces the students to actually read the article and summarize in a fun way, versus the traditional reading and summarizing in a paragraph.

Students will create a word cloud with the new vocabulary learned throughout their lesson. They will copy and paste their presentation wording to create the word cloud.
